OK - I have a bit of an "inside connection" with a TAIS engineer in Miami. (which is how I got the really good deal on my current S705)
Soooo...I called him about the recent S705 discontinuation...and I got some really juicy information from him.
I cannot reveal the name of the source due to NDA's and such, but the information he gave me he said was 80% complete.
With that being said, the 5205 has definately been discontinued and Toshiba is not planning on making any more.
Now here's the really exciting part:
Around the beginning of October, Toshiba is supposed to release a new laptop.
This model will have a 17" WUXGA CASV display!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!
My jaw literally dropped when he said that...He said they have prototypes of the screen already..In addition the new laptop will have a 128MB GeForce 5600FX Go and will run at 800 FSB.
And he said that they are planning on a "Pentium 4 Portablity" chip, possibly running at 3.2Ghz although that is still "very much up in the air" and could end up being a regular desktop chip....
The design will be very similar to the current P25 design. It will also have Harmon Kardon speakers, a subwoofer, a TV Tuner with Windows Media Center software and a 7200rpm HD!!!
Granted this is not official specs or an official release from Toshiba, but this information is from a very reliable source so take it for whats its worth and dont kill the messenger if it turns out to be inaccurate.
But as for me, I will definately be putting my S705 up on Ebay soon
