No extra gain for Intel Core 2 in 64-bit environment?!

On July 23 Intel will be releasing its next-generation x86 architecture, the one that will put it back in a full leadership position in the x86 space. The Core 2 architecture contains many features that make the Core 2 family performs better than AMD's chips. Yet most of the testings are based on 32-bit environment, one would wonder if the Core 2 still led in the 64-bit environment. The answer is sure, but with less performance gain than Pentium 4.

According to the internal document from the manufacturers (Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 VS AMD Athlon 64 FX 62 & Intel Pentium XE 965), Pentium XE 965 could perform 5-10% (2-3% for Athlon 64 FX 62) better in 64-bit, Core 2 however was found no obvious boost.
