Nvidia Readies New “G92” Graphics Processing Unit for November

Nvidia Set to Update Graphics Chips Family in Two Months

Nvidia Corp., the world’s largest supplier of discrete graphics processing units (GPUs), reportedly plans to update its lineup of chips in mid-November this year. While according to media reports the company has no plans to dethrone its high-end GeForce 8800 Ultra with the new code-named G92 product, it is highly unlikely that Nvidia has no plans to offer a new top-of-the-range product this fall.

Several media reports claim that the G92 chip due to be commercially launched on the 12th of November will be positioned as a performance-mainstream part, not as an ultra high-end product. The chip will sport an improved PureVideo HD video engine, PCI Express 2.0 bus, DVI, DisplayPort as well as HDMI outputs, media reports claim. It remains to be seen whether the new product will also feature DirectX 10.1 capabilities. The new chip is projected to be made using 65nm process technology at TSMC.

Earlier this year Michael Hara, vice president of investor relations at Nvidia Corp., said that the company’s forthcoming flagship product would have peak computing power close to 1TFLOPs, about two times more compared to the current code-named G80 chips, which is used on the GeForce 8800 GTS, GTX and Ultra products.

Nvidia’s code-named G80 chip was introduced in mid-November, 2006, as a high-end offering from the company. Being made using 90nm process technology, the chip featured 681 million transistors without output logic, which means that the solution was quite expensive to build.

Santa Clara, California-based Nvidia Corp. already has a history of creating an expensive solutions and then making them faster and more affordable to manufacture. In June, 2005, Nvidia introduced its G70 processor that powered the company’s GeForce 7800 family of products and had a rather large die size. Already in March, 2006, the company released its G71 chip that had the same capabilities as the predecessor, but could operate at higher clock-speeds and also was cheaper to make. While the GeForce 7900 did not offer a two times performance improvement over the predecessor, the GeForce 7950 GX2 graphics card could boast with unbelievable peak computing power for that time as it featured two G71 GPUs.

Besides creating a chip that would feature over a billion of transistors, Nvidia may chose an option to produce a dual-chip graphics card based on relatively inexpensive graphics processors. Unfortunately, there is no reliable information whether Nvidia’s G92 is actually a complex high-end graphics processor, or a chip of modest complexity to replace Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS and power a dual-GPU “GX2” graphics card.

VR-Zone has learned more about the upcoming Nvidia G92 where the official marketing name is most likely to be GeForce 8700 GTS. As revealed earlier, G92 is 65nm based and has 256-bit memory bus width. The reference 8700 GTS card has 8-layer PCB and comes with 512MB GDDR3 1ns memories so the memory clock of G92 is estimated to be between 900Mhz to 1GHz. Core clock is unknown yet.

Nvidia G92 is GeForce 8800 GT

Nvidia has decided to change the marketing name of G92 from GeForce 8700 GTS to GeForce 8800 GT instead. The 8800 GT card is 9-inch long, has 8-10 layer PCB and equipped with 1ns GDDR3 memories clocked at 900MHz. There will be 2 SKUs; GeForce 8800 GT 256MB and GeForce 8800 GT 512MB priced at US$199 and US$249 respectively. The performance lies between GeForce 8600 GTS and 8800 GTS 640MB. However, knowing that RV670 is doing better than expected, Nvidia is now trying to bump up clock speed of G92 and may push forward its launch schedule to early November to be ahead of RV670. There will be 2 SKUs; GeForce 8800 GT 256MB and GeForce 8800 GT 512MB priced at US$199 and US$249 respectively.

O problema estará mesmo no desempenho face as HD2900PRO que se encontram na mesma gama de preço que as 8800GT 512MB.

É facil... basta fazer as contas.

8800GT soon promoted everybody all already to know, 3DMark06 supposed the score to reach as high as in advance for 10,800 minute, has already pressed GeForce 8800GTS 320, also approached 8800GTS 640 edition, but 8800GT was 65nm, if the downriver merchant exchanged 2 Slot radiator, in the crazy ultra core string flowed the processor, that 8800GT potency storm walked is again may anticipate, because really went to extremes approaches 8800GTS 640, thereupon NVIDIA found out a solution... Renews the 8800GTS 640 specifications.

8800GTS 640 will be able to leave section 112 SP the new edition, other specifications will be completely invariable. Because the memory body equally is 10, therefore the memory body lies between the surface to be supposed to be also maintenance original 320 bits. Originally G80 is 8 SP group group (a group group has 16 SP), 8800GTS is the slight defect version only has 6 groups groups, new edition is the slight defect quite few, some 7 SP group group.

Again comes..

NVIDIA will NOT be doing any formal launch activities, press announcements, website updates, or any other marketing around this new sku. Partners can conduct their own marketing activities around the sku as they see fit.

This is said NVIDIA "will not be able" 640 to create any propaganda to new edition 8800GTS, also will not be able to change the model, anything will not have, will be quietly trades present 8800GTS 640. Comes out after 8800GT, 8800GTS 640 or has its value, plays a 1920x1200 analysis person in particular, but the present needs to buy the speech please call a halt, because the SP quantity is the GeForce 8 essential specifications, new edition 8800GTS 640 certainly can quite be quick, may pull open with the 8800GT disparity.

Now driest is the downriver merchant, because NVIDIA did not plan creates any propaganda to be able to take into the merchant is in a dilemma the aspect, if quietly trades, including packs the speech which does not change, buys 8800GTS 640 with to buy happy passes is same, the luck good is the high efficiency version, the luck is not good..... . But if voluntarily adds on Plus, Extreme and so on phrase, that originally 8800GTS 640 possibly cannot sell. But this is the merchant question, we so long as chose new edition 8800GTS 640 to be good!

Finally....

8800GT and new edition 8800GTS 640 will shift to an earlier time goes on the market, original 11,/12, now shifts to an earlier time to 10/29 goes on the market! Has not been wrong, this month must start DX10 "really. center the step card" war.

http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php ... st=3743328

Esta nova 8800GTS vai-se assim aproximar da 8800GTX e deixar a 8800GT ocupar o seu lugar, espera-se que a 8800 Ultra venha desalojar a 8800GTX.

UPDATE:

More details have popped up and we learned that GeForce 8800 GT (G92) will be clocked at 600MHz core and 1.8GHz memory. However Nvidia might still further increase the core clock depending on how Radeon 2950PRO performs. The reference score provided by Nvidia to the partners is 10.8K in 3DMark06 or to be exact 10769. The launch date is said to be brought forward to October 29th. Mobile101 has a photo of the 8800 GT card even and it is a single slot solution as we have been telling you.

http://www.vr-zone.com/articles/GeForce ... /5309.html

We heard the overclocking headroom for GeForce 8800 GT is pretty impressive mainly due to the finer 65nm process technology. However, Nvidia has purposely limits the core clock at 600MHz so its performance won't get too close to the GeForce 8800 GTS thereby hurt its sales. However, users can still choose to overclock the core and we should be seeing more than 700MHz easily. However, if Radeon HD 2950PRO performance comes too close for comfort, Nvidia might increase the core clock further.
