D-Link 802.11b+ router and access points with "4x" firmware cause GPF/Blue screen on Centrino laptops.
Symptom: Laptops running WinXP and that contain an Intel Centrino wireless card may experience a Blue screen or the following GPF (General Protection Fault) error:
IRQL Not Less Or Equal W70N51.SYS
Stop 0x000000D1
shortly after connecting with a D-Link "802.11b+" router or access point (DI-614+, DWL-900AP+, etc.) with "4x" upgraded firmware installed. The problem can occur both with and without the "4x" mode enabled.
Work-Around: Downgrade the D-Link product to firmware that does not have "4x" support. The problem has been reported to both D-Link and Intel, but there is no information on when a fix will be made available.
Update 8/3/03: Beta firmware (2.57b2) is available from D-Link support for the DWL-900AP+ that fixes the problem.
Update 9/21/03: If you still experience problems try a newer version of the driver (v3.05) on the German D-Link site. Follow these steps:
Download the new driver
uninstall the old driver via Device Manager
search for and delete AIRLINK.INF
right click on the new driver *.INF file & choose install
reboot and finish the driver installation by pointing the installer to the new driver
Install the Airlink utility (let it remove the old one)
