Tenho um WD 250GB SE16 SATA2 e queria fazer raid 0. A minha duvida é que vi 2 versões deste disco, a igual á minha, por 82€, e a Raid Edition, por 95€. Qual devo comprar?

Qualquer um deles faz Raid ... nunca percebi esse Raid Edition ... Nao vi diferenças nas specs

Não sei os resultados de benchmark mas os RE são dedicados a servidores pelo que tens uma garantia de 5 anos e teoricamente são mais fiáveis. Acredito que os RE sejam um pouco mais lentos para que a sua fiabilidade seja maior mas é só o meu palpite.

Por essa diferença de preço, vale a pena ir para o RE pelos 5 anos de garantia.

Tb penso que é a mesma coisa ... Traz é esses extras dos cabos etc... pela diferença de preços nao vale a pena a meu ver ...
Quanto a garantia de 5 anos .. pelo menos no meu fornecedor nao é indicada . Tem a normal de 2 para pessoal 1 para empresa.

As caracteristicas exclusivas da serie Caviar RE (raid edition) são;

1 Million Hour MTBF : The new Caviar RE drives are rated to handle one million hours of operation (114 years), as opposed to the 750,000 hour MTBF (85 years) rating for the standard Caviar SE drives. In comparison, Maxtor's new MaxLine III drives are also boasting 1 million hour MTBF ratings, and Western Digital's own high-end Raptor drives boast higher 1.2 million hour MTBF (136 years) ratings.

Time Limited Error Recovery (TLER) - There is not much information on TLER through WD or through other sources, but according to WD's description, this technology helps improve overall reliability by not crashing during when the drive is running error recovery functions and also "improves compatibility" with RAID adapters, whatever that vague description means. It sounds as if TLER is some sort of intelligent timeout method where a disk will not continue reading a bad sector, keeping the drive from getting stuck trying to read a single damaged part of the disk. Western Digital states that because of this feature (TLER) in particular, the RAID Edition drives should not be used in desktop systems, rather only workstations and servers. A fairly ominous footnote, in our opinion.

Warranty - WD is placing a three year warranty on the Caviar RAID Edition drives for both OEM and Retail products. In comparison, the Caviar SE only has a three year warranty for OEM products; the retail products have a single year warranty only. While a three year warranty across the board is nice, many consumers would expect a five year warranty for a product aimed at servers, similar to the five year warranty which the Raptor drives have. Seagate is also putting five year warranties on all of their new Barracuda drives.

Decreased Power Levels / Noise Production - Western Digital does not state this as a specific feature of these drives, but while looking through the specifications of the WD Caviar SE and RE drives, we noticed that the new Caviar RE draws quite a bit less voltage compared to the SE variant, allowing for the drive to run cooler (in theory). In addition, we see that idle and seek acoustic levels have dropped quite a bit compared to previous Caviar SE drives. Check the comparison chart below for details.

Entao mais vale comprar a versão normal, não é?

Acho que deves comprar igual ao que já tens .

Se fosse a comprar 2 novos se calhar poderia ter logica serem os Raid edition .

Mas visto que já tens um , nao vai trazer vantagens ...pois se um pifa o outro nao vai poder fazer nada e a informaçao perde-se.
