At the annual AMD Industry Analyst Forum, AMD demonstrated the industry’s first native quad-core x86 server processor, Opteron (codenamed Barcelona). Achieving four x86 processing cores on a single die of silicon, a server powered by four upcoming quad-core Barcelona, manufactured on 65nm silicon-on-insulator process technology, was shown utilizing all 16 cores.
Unlike Intel’s quad-core processors now available, quad-code Barcelona is in native design, meaning the four cores are eligible to share the L3 cache without passing through north bridge, hence lower the latency to give a more powerful calculation power.

Quad-core AMD Opteron processor (Barcelona) has set at a level higher than the existing Opteron 8xxx and 2xxx family, combined with 2MB L2 Cache, 512KB for each of the cores, shared the same 2MB L3, and supported ECC Registered DDR2 memory. The speeds vary from 1.9 GHz to 2.5 GHz, and TDP are designed in 68W, 95W and 120W.
Accompanying Barcelona, there is another 1-way Quad-core AMD Opteron processor (Budapest) is coming in Q3 2007, which has 2MB L2 Cache combined, 512KB for each of the cores, shared the same 2MB L3, and supported Hyper-Transport 3.0 and unbuffered DDR2 memory. The speeds vary from 2.1 GHz to 2.5 GHz, and TDP are designed in 95W and 120W.
Não entendo porque é que só os 1-way (série 1, portanto) é que vão ter HT3.0 em primeira instância... Mas ok.
