Intel's 45nm roadmap revealed

AMD may be planning tri-cores but until those will be released, arch-rival Intel will have its new, 45nm processor line-up already in stores. With 45nm production set to begin soon the desktop parts, that will follow the new Xeons is closing in fast and will be ready to give AMD a big slap even before the end of the year.

The first wave of 45nm desktop CPUs is set to include no less than 8 (eight) releases, all depicted below. First to arrive will be the QX9650, an Extreme Edition part featuring four cores clocked at 3 Ghz, 12MB of L2 cache (6MB per die) and a 130W TDP. This one will be launched in November and will hit the stores soon after. With 2007 gone and 2008 young and naive, Intel will have seven more CPUs, four dual-cores and three quad-cores ready. The highest-end non-Extreme quad-core is the Q9550, with 12MB of L2 cache, a frequency of 2.83GHz and a TDP of 95W.

The cheapest 45nm quad, the Q9300 will be clocked at 2.5GHz and will have only 6MB of L2 cache (3MB per die). As for the dual-cores, Intel will release the E8500, E8400, E8300 and E8200, clocked from 3.16Ghz to 2.66GHz and all with a 65W TDP. All processors (including the QX9650) will have a 1333 MHz FSB. Intel is probably saving the 1600FSB for later.

QX9650 = 1000$
Q9550 = 600$
Q9450 = 450$
Q9300 = 300$

E8500 = 400$
E8400 = 350$ Duvido que veja a luz do dia...
E8300 = 200$
E8200 = 150$

Um pormenor muito negativo: os multiplicadores já voltaram a ser decimais. Isso pode condicionar e muito o overclock. Pode ser que a Intel tenha melhorado isso (esperemos), mas não ponho mãos no fogo

The models ready to be rolled out in Q4 2007 and Q1 2008 have already been revealed but what was unknown was the sum Intel will want for its updated line-up. Now, with the exception of the lonely dual-core E8300, the rest of the 45nm pack is priced and can already start causing AMD an extended headache.

In short, the most expensive 45nm desktop part will of course be the quad-core Extreme QX9650, with an asking price of $999. The rest of the quads will be priced from $530 (Q9550) to just $266 for the Q9300 that will unfortunately have only 6MB of L2 cache.

The dual-core processors will start off from where the Q9300 ends and will have the 3.16GHz E8500 costing $266. The 45nm line-up ends with the E8200 that costs just $163. And the war continues. The full list of prices (in 1000-unit tray quantities) can be found just below.

Alright! Don't Slap me for using EIST, the current BIOS doesn't disable EIST for this CPU, new one will, but still 6GHz is nice to see, with 4 Cores enabled

You can boost up the FSB in windows through SETFSB or the new Aegis Panel. 12x500MHz!! With LN2 of course!

Need some nice HD2900XT for CrossFire action, see if there's time between work!

O facto de ser ES só ajuda, porque é sabido que saem muito melhores para OC. Não deixa de ser espantoso, no entanto
