NVIDIA's yet-to-be released GeForce 9800 GX2 in the "flesh." We reveal some of the specs and what should be expected.

The best way to think of the GeForce 9800 GX2 card is as an 8800 GPU that has been die shrunk to 65nm and placed in an SLI configuration in a "single" card. The 9800 GX2 is very reminiscent of 7950 GX2 of days past. (And we loved the 7950 GX2 at launch, but terrible support and diminishing returns soon painted it as one of NVIDIA’s biggest failures since the 5800 series.)

The GeForce 9800 GX2 will launch in late February or early March as it now stands and will replace the 8800 Ultra (single GPU) card in NVIDIA's high-end product line up. The 9800 GX2 is said to be at least 30% faster than a 8800 Ultra. While it is not clear from the pictures below, we are told it will support "Quad SLI."

All of the information here comes from sources overseas that we consider trustworthy. Obviously there are some specifications that could be a bit more clear, especially on the memory bus. We would expect to see two 768MB frame buffers per GPU here, but that is not what is spelled out. We are guessing 512MB per GPU currently. MSI 9800GX2 1GB GDDR3

The frequencies of soon to be released GeForce 9800 GX2 have been the subject of some recent rumors but a little piece of info coming from MSI turns everything around. According to a little web page that was taken down, the MSI N9800GX2-M2D1G is clocked higher than the 600/1500/2000 MHz (GPU/shaders/memory) already reported.

Boasting 1GB of GDDR3(?) memory and OpenGL 2.1 support, MSI's GeForce 9800 GX2 has been posted as having a GPU clock of 660 MHz, Shaders at 1650 MHz and memory at 2400 MHz. The truth is probably somewhere in the between the two said specs. We'll find out soon enough.

VR-Zone has gotten some details and photos of the GeForce 9800 GTX (G92-P392) card. It comes with 12-layer PCB at 4.376" by 10.5". This card is clocked at 673MHz for core and 1683MHz for the shader while memory clock is yet to be determined. The memory interface is 256-bit with 512MB of 136-pin BGA GDDR3 memory onboard. It comes with two DVI-I and one HDTV-out. There are two SLI connectors and two 6-pin PCIe power connector. The card employs the CoolerMaster TM67 cooler where the fan is rated at 0.34A, 4.08W, 2900rpm, 34dBA. The total board power is 168W.

Here is our 9800GTX GPU-Z screen shot. As you can see, the card’s core clock is only 25MHz higher than G92 based 8800GTS 512MB. But memory clock is as high as 1100MHz, so that’s why we said it will have a 0.8ns memory module. Because of the core clock’s raised, shader also went up to 1688MHz.
The amount of ROPs, shader and memory interface keeps unchanged compare to G92-400, 8800GTS 512MB’s core.
The GPU-Z 0.1.7 didn’t work with 9800GTX. After W1zzard@TPU make some change on his GPU-Z, the tool can finally read all the data of the card. Thanks, W1zzard.

Juntei a série 9800 toda num tópico já que tinha este da GX2. Não sei ao certo a fiabilidade destes specs já que acho os 256bit pouco, mas sendo este G92 ainda mais optimizado a nível de bus que o G92 da 8800GT e GTS, vai certamente vai enterrar a 8800 Ultra.

GeForce 9800 GX2 Launch Delayed Till 18th March

Nvidia has informed their partners the upcoming GeForce 9800 GX2 launch is delayed again till March 18th. No reasons provided by Nvidia. However, it is probably due to drivers issue according to partners. Right now, the card is scoring about 14K+ in 3DMark06, lower than the Radeon HD 3870 X2.
