Microsoft Releases Beta for New Hotmail
The new Hotmail service offers 2 GB of storage space, a rich text editor and integrates protection against phishing scams. In phishing attacks hackers forge the sender's e-mail address in an effort to steal sensitive information such as login names and passwords for online banks.
Microsoft has released a beta of a new version of its Hotmail online e-mail service.
The project is codenamed "Kahuna" and has been made available to select group of current MSN Hotmail users.
The service is currently in an incubation stage, said a spokesperson from Microsoft's MSN team told. The company declined to give a projected release date and wouldn't even confirm if the software will be released at all.
The new Hotmail was build from the ground up, and aims to make it "faster, safer and simpler" to use Web mail, the spokesperson said.

Unconfirmed reports say that the new Hotmail features automatic inbox refreshing, similar to a feature that Google's Gmail already offers.
It is also said to offer a preview pane like the one in the Outlook e-mail application. The preview pane allows users to read their e-mail without leaving the inbox.
